From Inspiration to Innovation

Each year, communities around the world come together to mark Zero Waste Week, a grassroots, award-winning campaign dedicated to reducing landfill waste, preserving the Earth’s resources, and advocating for a more circular economy.

Founded in 2008 by Rachelle Strauss, who witnessed first-hand the devastating impact of the Boscastle floods in 2004. The initiative began as a personal challenge, and has since transformed into a global movement involving millions.

In 2025, Zero Waste Week aligns with the first full week in September, running from the 1st to 5th of September, inviting everyone, from individuals to schools and businesses, to reduce, reuse, and rethink waste.

Why Zero Waste Week Matters

Zero Waste Week isn’t about perfection, it’s about making progress. Encouraging simple yet meaningful actions: realising what we don’t need, reducing waste, reusing items, recycling properly, and composting organic matter. This week becomes a powerful reminder that our everyday choices, from what we buy, how we use it, and how we discard it, have ripple effects through the planet’s health. Zero Waste Week inspires creativity, connection, and collective action toward a cleaner future.

Transforming Waste into Beauty

At Revive, we share Rachelle Strauss’s vision of reimagining waste as an opportunity with untapped potential. Our mission, “Redefining Waste and Inspiring a Sustainable Future”, drives everything we do.

Upcycling Spent Coffee Grounds

Food waste is one of the most pressing issues around the world today. More than one-third of global food production goes to waste, ending up in landfill sites, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions. Among this waste is an estimated 60 million tonnes of spent coffee grounds, a resource rich in potential, but one that is just thrown away.

Our team has developed a patented process to extract a valuable coffee oil from these discarded grounds. This oil boasts high levels of antioxidants and fatty acids, making it an excellent, and more sustainable, alternative to palm oil and coconut oil in skincare formulations.

Innovation Beyond Oil

We didn’t stop there. Through further research, we have succeeded in derivatising a natural surfactant from this coffee oil. This renewable, naturally derived ingredient can replace carbon-intensive, synthetic surfactants commonly used in skincare and cleaning products. This breakthrough represents not only a skincare solution but also a meaningful step toward decarbonising product supply chains.

Celebrating Zero Waste Week Together

This Zero Waste Week, we’re proud to be part of the global movement:

  • Zero Waste Week (1–5 September 2025) invites us to act, share, and inspire change across the home, businesses, schools, and wider communities.
  • At Revive Eco, we turn one person’s waste into another’s ingredient, extracting antioxidant-rich coffee oil and pioneering a natural surfactant from spent grounds, offering effective, eco-friendly alternatives to traditional skincare and cleaning ingredients.

Together, we can turn waste into wonder, proving that sustainability and innovation go hand in hand.

What You Can Do This Week

  • Set your goal: Commit to one change, like reducing food waste or choosing upcycled products.
  • Spread the word: Use #ZeroWasteWeek to share your journey and inspire others.
  • Partner for change: Consider how your business can collaborate with innovators like Revive Eco Ltd to bring zero-waste alternatives to beauty and beyond.

Zero Waste Week is about rethinking our habits and reclaiming what we throw away. With every small action, we build momentum toward a more sustainable, beauty-filled, and waste-free world.
