2020 – A Year In Review

We are delighted to be rounding off the year by sharing some exciting news about the progress we have made over the course of the last 12 months, in spite of the turbulent and challenging circumstances in which we have all found ourselves.

2020 saw us launching our first small scale coffee ground processing unit which is situated in our facility in Cumbernauld. With the help of our resource management partner, Cauda, we were collecting around 2.5 tonnes of coffee grounds (equivalent to over 80,000 lattes)  per week from clients across Scotland in order to feed our processing unit. Although the volume of coffee grounds we are collecting has reduced throughout the year, we are starting to see this picking up again gradually, and we’ll be doing everything we can to support our partners in the hospitality sector.

We’ve also been delighted to expand our team over the course of the year, bringing in a Chemical Engineer and Senior Chemist, with two more Chemists joining us in January, taking us to a team of six. The majority of our team will be based in our new lab at the BioCity facility which we have recently moved into. We’re incredibly excited to be working closely with an organisation such as BioCity, as well as being surrounded by other Scottish companies at the forefront of scientific innovation. We also invested in our first branded fleeces and lab coats which was a pretty big deal for us all.

In November, we were thrilled to secure a place on both the inaugural KTN SME Accelerator programme and the 2020-21 Unlocking Ambitions cohort. Both programmes have been of immense value so far and we’re fortunate to be surrounded by some incredible businesses on both programmes.

In order to catalyse our development work into the New Year, we are delighted to announce that we have secured over £210,000 in grant funding through the Sustainable Innovation Fund, SMART:Scotland and Unlocking Ambition. It is thanks to this funding that we have been able to grow our team, putting us in a great position to continue our progress and enhance our development work early next year.

2021 is shaping up to be a very exciting year for us at Revive with plans to continue to grow our team, raise a further investment round, and have sample products in the hands of cosmetics manufacturers by Spring. We’ll be sure to keep our supporters updated with our developments throughout the year, so please do keep an eye out for updates. In the meantime, thanks for your continued support and here’s to 2021!
